Singer and artist Luk Bral has passed away at the age of 71. He became known in 1974 with his hit ‘Hello, here I am then’. VRT NWS reports this. For several years he had been in a residential care center in the Ghent sub-municipality of Sint-Amandsberg.

Luk Bral was born in 1949 in Drongen, East Flanders. He studied cabaret at Studio Herman Teirlinck in Antwerp, and started working for the then BRT radio on Omroep Antwerpen.
Besides ‘Hello, here I am then’ from 1974 are ‘Hey, hey, it’s summer’ and ‘A sunny summer afternoon’ are well-known songs. Bral made three LPs.
In 1975 Bral took part in the preselections for the Eurovision Song Contest. But in the end it was Ann Christy who represented our country with ‘Be Happy’.
Bral later earned a living as a street musician and draftsman in London and Paris. In recent years he has stayed in a residential care center in Sint-Amandsberg near Ghent.
