Singer Corneliu Munteanu, who was supposed to appear at the Montreal courthouse, was conspicuous by his absence Thursday morning, and forced the Court to issue an arrest warrant for him.
The 40-year-old man faces two counts of allegedly drugging two victims without their knowledge during two separate events that allegedly took place in 2013 and 2016.
During his last appearance, where he was not present, his lawyer already said she was having difficulty reaching him. An order to be present was given at this time for his appearance today.
However, he never showed up. His lawyer still didn’t seem to have any news from him.
“On the last date, the judge had asked the accused to be present in court today. Monsieur was not present, so a warrant was issued by the judge, Me Laurence-Fanny L’Estage, the prosecutor for criminal and penal prosecutions.
If intercepted, Corneliu could be arrested and brought to court.
The singer is accused of intoxicating two people with whom he had an intimate relationship several years ago.
The 39-year-old man was arrested on November 11, 2022.
Few details have filtered out about the affair, but the Journal de Montréal reported that a first event occurred in August 2013.
The second event allegedly took place three years later, in June 2016. This second accusation concerns a second victim.
However, it was not until November 2022 that an investigation was launched by the SPVM concerning these two events where he allegedly administered a deleterious substance.
