McVie, then Perfect, often came into contact with the British blues scene during his studies in the British city of Birmingham. As a member of the band Chicken Shack, she met her future husband and Fleetwood Mac bassist. They married in 1969. Two years later she joined Fleetwood Mac as well.
Considered a pioneer, she was one of the first female musicians to enter the British blues scene of the 1960s and one of the first to release a solo album.
