Singer and co-founder UB40 passed away

Until 2013, Wilson was part of the band UB40 that scored hits in the eighties with Red Red Wine, Can’t Help Falling In Love and Kingston Town. He then left to start another group.

“We are devastated to announce that our beloved Astro passed away today after a short illness,” his current group, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell & Astro, reported on Twitter. “The world will never be the same without him.”

100 million records

Earlier this year, saxophonist Brian Travers, also a co-founder of the band, passed away at the age of 62 from cancer.

UB40 broke through with a cover of Neil Diamond’s song Red Red Wine, which sold more than 100 million records. The group’s name, which began in Birmingham in 1978, refers to the UK’s unemployment benefit claim form.
