Greek theater actress, singer and international film star Irene Papas died on Tuesday, the news agency reports Reuters.
As a film actress, she has received numerous prestigious awards. She starred in films such as the blockbuster “I cannoni di Navarone” (1961), the Greek tragedy “Antigone” (1961) – for which she received the award as best actress at the Berlin Film Festival – and the Italian-American gangster film ” 1931: Once Upon a Time in New York “(1973).
Papas is also known for her longtime and secret relationship with Marlon Brando, which she described as the greatest love of her life. The two met for the first time in Rome in 1954 and for the last time in Athens in 1999. Brando died in 2004.
