A startup company from Singapore, Brilliant Labs, makes Frame smart glasses which are equipped with the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to be able to visually analyze the objects seen.
According to The Verge, Saturday, Frame smart glasses can be used to identify landmarks that are seen, search for information on websites about shoes that the user is looking at and even search for nutritional information about food to be consumed. The information appears on the lens.
The Frame glasses are equipped with a 640 x 400 pixel color micro OLED that projects light through a prism in front of the user’s eyes. The frame’s field of view is 20 degrees, which is relatively small for glasses augmented reality (AR) or mixed reality.
Users will see text or images in a small box.
The frame also comes with a 1280 x 720 camera, microphone, and 222mAh battery. The glasses run a completely custom Lua-based operating system open source (open source) and powered by a Cortex-M4F nRF52840 CPU.
Frame smart glasses come in three colors, namely black, gray and clear which can be obtained by pre-order. Brilliant Labs also provides options for prescription glasses, however, the price has increased from 349 US dollars (around Rp. 5.4 million) to 448 US dollars (Rp. 6.9 million).
Smart glasses are not a new concept, but none have become truly popular. Some smart glasses launched in previous years include Focals from North, glasses augmented-reality (AR) audio which is now discontinued by Bose, and most recently the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which are equipped with AI features that are still in beta.
Brilliant Labs designed Frame as a device open source (open source) so users have more freedom to make adjustments.
The frame is paired with Brilliant Labs’ Noa app, an AI assistant that uses OpenAI for visual analysis, Whisper for translation, and Perplexity for web search. Free use of Noa has a daily limit.
Therefore, Brilliant Labs plans to create a Noa subscription option, however, there is still no information about how much it will cost. The glasses can also be used with other applications.
