With enough people vaccinated, COVID-19 will be treated like other endemic diseases such as the common cold and hand, foot and mouth disease, the three deputy heads of the Singapore ministry’s COVID-19 task force said, as they outlined plans for transitioning to new normal.
Minister of Trade and Industry Singapore, Gan Kim Yong, Finance Minister Lawrence Wong and Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said that the priority in the next few months is to prepare Singapore to live with COVID-19 as a disease that will reoccur and can be controlled. “It’s been 18 months since the pandemic started and our people are tired of fighting. Everyone is asking: When and how will the pandemic end?” said the three ministers.

Singapore has taken steps to prepare for COVID-19 to become endemic and has stepped up vaccination efforts as it struggles to curb a spike in infections.
