After a long break of silence, one of the brightest rap associations in the Latvian music field “Singapore Satin” has released a new song “Toxic” and its video, as well as announced this year’s upcoming album.
The video clip of the song “Toxic” was filmed in the closed Straupe Narcology Hospital, and the mood in it is not one of the happiest – the clip is kept in black and white in the aesthetics of psychological horror films with a destructively gloomy mood. Together with the members of the group “Singapore Satin”, Anna Renāte Stuge participated in the video and played the main role, an episodic role was also played by her “Singaporean” colleague in the series “Big Fools” Robert Gobziņš.
“We have never had problems with self-confidence, especially with self-irony. We laugh at the culture of the early 2000s and our place in it, we laugh at the fact that we do not speak Russian or [likt] commas, festival culture and laughing at other topics, but this song is quite a huge contrast to our work so far. It is quite a realistic and brutal insight into the painful reality. Behind the “pricolic” masters of the “Pritons” are in fact very self-destructive and toxic individuals who can very quickly drag even the closest people into their paths of destruction. The video of the song was also shot in an iconic location, where countless “Priton” legends once steamed – in Straupe Narcological Hospital. There we would probably rehabilitate or haunt if one of our life-threatening “pritons” were to develop a little differently. In this video, we wanted to show the consequences of the method of “being treated for what you got sick”, but we have not yet learned from these mistakes ourselves, “say the group members.
With the release of the song “Toxic”, “Singapore Satin” announces that in 2021 a new studio album is expected from the band. As you know, “Singapore Satin” is the loudest and most discussed hip-hop group in Latvia recently, which made its debut at the end of 2015, when the band’s first soft tape “Singapore Satin Vol. 1 “. In just one night, this mix received appreciation from listeners and critics for its unique performance, satirical lyrics and contemporary sound. So far, the band has released two studio albums, three mixes and several singles. In 2020, Singapore Satin began collaborating with music publisher Universal Music Group to release the singles Blingi and Bambaleo, which became one of the most listened to domestic songs of the year on digital streaming platforms.
