The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) of Singapore received about 90 reports of suspected side effects after injections vaksin Sinovac-CoronaVac. Of the 90 reports, five reported ‘serious side effects’.
Quoted from Channel News Asia, there have been some serious side effects reported after receiving the Sinovac vaccine. Serious side effects range from serious allergic reactions, vertigo, ringing in the ears, anaphylaxis, to Bell’s Palsy.
Bell’s Palsy is a sudden paralysis of the facial muscles. In most cases, this condition is temporary and can improve significantly within weeks.
Quoted from Mayo Clinic, the cause of Bell’s Palsy is still not known for sure. However, the condition is believed to be due to swelling and inflammation of the nerves that control the muscles on one side of the face. However, it can also occur due to a viral infection.
Another serious side effect reported is anaphylaxis, which is a rare and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. This case can also occur after being vaccinated.
The HSA says a side effect is classified as a serious side effect if it can lead to hospitalization. In addition, these side effects can cause disability, to the risk of death.
“Overall, the serious side effects due to vaksin Sinovac This will continue to be observed after being vaccinated,” said HSA.
What about Pfizer and Moderna vaccines?
As of August 31, 2021, the HSA also received reports regarding side effects after the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Reported side effects are fairly common and resolve within a few days.
Some of the side effects after being vaccinated with these two Corona vaccines are shortness of breath, chest tightness, palpitations, pain and swelling at the injection site, fever, rash, itching, swelling of the eyelids, face, and lips.
Of the 11,737 reports, 498 cases were classified as serious side effects. A total of 72 cases are reports anaphylaxis and the other 49 cases were severe allergic reactions.
Other serious side effects, the person may experience difficulty breathing, fast heart rate, increased or decreased blood pressure, chest pain, pericarditis and myocarditis. All of these side effects are also being closely monitored by the HSA.
