Heatwaves hit large parts of South Asia and Southeast Asia. Yesterday, Singapore it even reported its highest temperature since the last 40 years.
Reported AFPSunday (14/5/2023), the temperature in Singapore Yesterday it was recorded at 37 degrees Celsius. The Environment Agency or NEA said the temperature was the highest this year. In addition, the figure also matched the record daily peak recorded in April 1983.
“Current warm and dry conditions are expected to continue tomorrow,” the agency said on Saturday (13/5) yesterday.
“Slight rains next week are expected to help moderate the warm temperatures,” he added.
According to the NEA, May is usually one of the warmest months of the year.
Several schools in Singapore has also relaxed rules about uniforms due to rising mercury in recent days.
Vietnam reported a record temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius last week, with the state electricity company warning that the national power system will come under strain this summer due to an anticipated heatwave.
Scientists say global warming is exacerbating bad weather, with a recent report from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warning that “any increase in global warming will intensify the dual and concurrent dangers”.
