Virus Corona AY.4.2 or the Delta Plus variant has been reported by Singapore and Malaysia. The virus that belongs to the Delta subvariant is said to be the trigger for the increase in COVID-19 cases, especially in the European continent.
Spokesperson for the COVID-19 vaccination program from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, reported that until Wednesday (11/10/2021), no variant has been found. AY.4.2 in Indonesia. Likewise with other COVID-19 variants that are included in the ‘watch list’ of the World Health Organization (WHO) such as Mu.
Nadia said most of the variants found in Indonesia are the regular Delta and Beta. This is known from more than 8,000 sequencing that has been done.
“Until now, the Mu variant and the Delta subvariant AY.4.2 have not been found in Indonesia,” Nadia said in a press conference broadcast by the Merdeka Barat 9 Forum, Wednesday (11/10/2021).
“But we still need to be vigilant by considering the Delta subvariant which still has the potential to trigger the next wave in Indonesia,” he continued.
To anticipate the spread of the Delta variant AY.4.2 from neighboring countries, the government promised to strengthen inspections at state entrances.
