Singapore investigates case of 10-month-old baby experiencing mysterious acute hepatitis

Given that there have been findings of mysterious cases of acute hepatitis in Singapore, this is a reminder for parents to be more vigilant. If your child has the following symptoms of hepatitis, you should immediately seek medical help or see a doctor.

Symptoms of hepatitis include:

– Dark colored urine

– Gray, pale stools

– The white part of the eye looks yellow or the skin looks yellow

– Itchy skin

– Muscle or joint pain

– Fever

– Nausea, vomiting or stomach pain

– Lethargy and or loss of appetite

WHO says that there has been one reported child death related to cases of acute hepatitis of unknown cause and origin in these children. The WHO said also that at least 169 cases had been reported in children in 12 countries.

This case is of concern because of the increase in the number of cases. Experts from various countries are investigating the increase in cases of mysterious acute hepatitis that occurred in the child.

As of April 21, 2022, cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin have been reported in the UK, USA, Spain, Israel, Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands, Italy, Norway, France, Romania and Belgium.
