KONTAN.CO.ID – SINGAPORE. Singapore has temporarily suspended the use of two influenza vaccines as a preventative measure. This action was carried out after several people who received the vaccine in South Korea died.

This also makes Singapore one of the first countries to publicly announce a halt to the use of the vaccine.

Earlier, South Korea reported that 48 people had died on Saturday (24/10) after receiving the flu vaccine. However, South Korean health authorities said they would continue the government-run vaccination program because they found no direct link between the deaths and the injections.

No deaths related to influenza vaccination have been reported in Singapore to date. But the decision to stop using SKYCellflu Quadrivalent and VaxigripTetra is a precautionary measure, the Ministry of Health and the Health Sciences Authority (HAS) said in a statement late on Sunday.

The HSA contacted South Korean authorities for more information as they investigated to determine whether the deaths were linked to influenza vaccination.

SKYCellflu Quadrivalent is produced by SK Bioscience South Korea and distributed locally by AJ Biologics. Meanwhile, VaxigripTetra is produced by Sanofi and distributed locally by Sanofi Aventis.
