Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A number of areas in the north and west of Singapore were inundated by flash floods on Tuesday (9/11/2021). This happened after the city-state was hit by heavy rains.
Citing reports Asia One and Straits Times, the National Water Agency (PUB) said the heavy rain had caused the water level in some of the city’s canals to rise by up to 90%. Areas recommended to avoid are Upper Paya Lebar Road, Siang Kuang Avenue and Puay Hee Avenue in Upper Serangoon, Balestier Road, Commonwealth Road, Tanjong Pagar Road, Stamford Canal and Bukit Timah Canal.
A spokesperson for PUB said it had also alerted the team at several points. But the flood quickly subsided and was resolved.
“We sent our Rapid Response Team officers who arrived within 30 minutes, but the flood had receded,” said the spokesman, quoted Friday (12/11/2021).
Meanwhile, a video circulating online shows a driver trying to steer his car along King’s Road. In the video, you can see how ferociously the water as high as the fence of the house swept away some garbage and debris.
“Oh my God, I’m so worried about the car right now!” said someone who recorded the video that.
It is also said that flooding occurs due to clogged drains. Grass clippings clogging drainage along King’s Road and its canal on Prince Road.
Singapore itself this year also experienced a series of floods in August and April. Both are caused by high rainfall triggered by southwest monsoon conditions.
