Singapore –
Singapore was hit by flash floods triggered by heavy rains on Tuesday (9/11) afternoon local time. Trigger Flash floods This is reportedly a pile of grass clippings clogging local waterways.
As reported Asia One and Straits Times, Thursday (11/11/2021), this flash flood caused inundation in several areas of Singapore, one of which was King’s Road in Evidence Timah.
One of the videos circulating online and going viral shows a section of King’s Road strewn with debris and floating trash cans. Cars parked on the side of the road were also flooded, which soaked the tires of the car.
Another video shows two pedestrians trying to plow through a puddle of flood water.
The national water agency, PUB, said in a statement that the flooding was triggered by grass clippings blocking drainage along King’s Road and its Prince Road canal.
“This inlet channel is intended to channel the flow of rainwater from the road into the drainage system, and must not be blocked. We assess this blockage to be a trigger for flooding,” a PUB spokesman told Stomp.
“After the debris in the inlet channel was cleared, PUB checked the current activity in the area and realized that there was grass cutting work being carried out in the morning, the same day. We reached out to relevant parties to follow up,” he added.
When heavy rains fell on Tuesday (9/11) local time, PUB also issued flood warnings in at least 10 different locations.
