‘Sincere’ skeptics with sharp elbows. For returning abroad after 13 years

Liene Lapševska left Latvia in 2006. She has lived in several countries: studied in the Czech Republic, worked in Gibraltar, and later pursued a career in the United Kingdom. A year ago, together with a friend who is a Dutch citizen, he decided to return to Latvia. And Brexit is not to blame for that, so you might think.

Liene left Latvia for the first time during her studies in 2006 to study in Prague for a few months. This trip was fatal because he met a guy in the Czech Republic. Two years later, she moved in with a friend in Gibraltar. “I didn’t plan to stay long, but I lived there for more than six years. Before that, I worked in the field of marketing in Latvia, but it so happened that when I left I met Elīna Garanča. “My friend’s boss was associated with the Philharmonic Society, which organized his concerts. When the head of the society’s vacancy appeared, it was offered to me.”

Initially, Liene was skeptical of the offer, as her musical baggage was only a diploma for graduating from music school. However, she decided to try and start producing concerts. The association worked closely with Latvia, inviting many Latvian performing artists to perform in Gibraltar. Liene lived in Gibraltar, but because of the cost of living, she decided that it would be more rational to move to nearby Spain and cross the border every day to get to work.

At some point, there was a feeling that there was no room for new achievements in professional terms. Liene decided to go on a trip to South Africa – she planned to live there for a while and find a job. “I was in Johannesburg for several months. I contacted the Latvian consul who could advise me on how to find a job in South Africa. It was a completely foreign country for me, the only way to get to know it was to meet our consul. It wasn’t a job offer either. For the next four months, I just traveled the country, but later went to Asia. The adventure lasted about nine months, after which I arrived in London. “
