Since the moon is between the sun and the earth, a phenomenon occurs A beautiful universe that occurs once every several years, so what is this phenomenon and how does it happen? We will find this question among our students in educational curricula in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in our article today via Reference site We will learn about this phenomenon in accordance with the duties and training of our dear students, with important information related to it.
Since the moon is between the sun and the earth, a phenomenon occurs
There are many celestial phenomena that occur outside our planet automatically and unintentionally, which we previously only noticed from our location on Earth when they occurred without finding any explanation for them, including the following phenomenon:
- Since the moon is between the sun and the earth, a phenomenon occurseclipse
A solar eclipse is a celestial phenomenon that doesn’t happen very often, but it’s wonderful to watch it when it does. On those rare occasions when you’re in the right place at the right time for a total solar eclipse, you’ll find it’s amazing and magical.[1]

What is an eclipse and how does it happen
Since the moon revolves around the earth at an angle of about 5 degrees from the level of the earth and the sun, the moon crosses the orbital plane of the earth only twice a year, and these periods are called eclipse seasons because they are the only times when eclipses can occur.
- An eclipse is a cosmic phenomenon that occurs when the moon passes in a straight line between the earth and the sun.
Where the moon’s shadow travels over the surface of the earth and blocks sunlight as seen from the earth, and for the eclipse to occur, the moon must be in the correct phase during eclipse season, and it must also be a new moon so for a complete eclipse to occur.[1]
Types of eclipses
There are three main types of solar eclipses:[2]
- total eclipse A total solar eclipse can be seen from a small area on Earth, and for a total eclipse to occur, the sun, moon, and earth must be in a straight line.
- Partial eclipse: This happens when the Sun, Moon and Earth are not perfectly aligned so that the Sun appears to have a dark shadow on a small part of its surface.
- Annular eclipse: The annular eclipse occurs when the moon is far from the earth, as the moon appears before the sun as a dark disk above a larger sun-colored disk, and this creates what looks like a ring around the moon.
Problems caused by the eclipse by looking directly at it
It is very dangerous to look directly at the sun even during a solar eclipse and therefore you should never try to observe a total, partial or annular eclipse with the naked eye, and the damage it causes:[2]
- Viewing an eclipse can cause permanent vision loss.
- The damage occurs quickly without any pain.
- Vision loss does not occur until after the eclipse.
- There is no cure for it and children are particularly at risk.
With this, we come to the end of our article, which was titled Since the moon is between the sun and the earth, a phenomenon occurs. Through which we answered one of the questions of our esteemed students and talked about the phenomenon of eclipses, its causes, types and harm to humans.
