Since the beginning of 2024, 19 criminal cases have been initiated in Belarus on the facts of telephone fraud, reports the Telegram channel Ministry of Internal Affairs. It is clarified that these criminal cases were initiated on the facts when the attackers managed to persuade their interlocutors to transfer large sums in exchange for not bringing their relative to justice for the alleged accident.
As a result of illegal actions, citizens suffered damage in excess of 200 thousand rubles. In most cases, to implement their plans, scammers used taxi drivers who took parcels of money from defrauded people and delivered them to a specified location. They did not know about the criminal component of the service provided, unlike the recipients of the packages. The latter have already transferred cash to foreign accounts or crypto wallets of scammers for their percentage. The attackers also recruited teenagers to act as intermediaries, the Ministry of Internal Affairs notes.
