21 fighters were killed in the disaster that occurred yesterday (Monday) in the south of the Gaza Strip in the area of the al-Mu’azi refugee camp – not far from the compound that at the beginning of the war served as the safe zone to which the residents of the north of the Gaza Strip were evacuated. The fighters of the 261st Brigade, the reserve brigade of the 1st BHD, were required to blow up buildings they captured, but in the end two RPG missiles that were fired led to the collapse of the building.
The collapse occurred in an area intended to be a buffer zone after the war, following the activation of the explosives resulting from the RPG explosion. Rescue forces were rushed to the scene, including 669, the Home Front Command and the Fire Brigade immediately after the incident which happened at 16:00, and it was only at night that the incident ended after all the victims were located.

“An unbearable morning”
President Yitzhak Herzog said following the disaster: “An unbearably difficult morning, in which more and more names of the best of our children – the silver tray in the full sense of the word – are being added to the gravestone of heroism, in a war that has no justice. Behind every name is a family whose world was destroyed in one, a family that we adopt to Our hearts are filled with grief and pain and at the same time with pride – for the heroism of the generation, for the mission and evil, for sticking to the goal and for the love of the people and the homeland. The intense battles are taking place in an extremely challenging space, and we strengthen the soldiers of the IDF and the security forces who work with endless determination to realize the goals of the fighting. On behalf of the entire nation, I console the families and pray for the healing of the wounded. Even on this sad and difficult morning, we are strong and remember that together we will win.”
Defense Minister Yoav Galant said: “On this difficult and painful morning when the news of Job reaches many homes in Israel, our hearts go out to the dear families in their most difficult time. This is a war that will determine the future of Israel for decades to come – the fall of the fighters is a requirement to achieve the goals of the war. I send my condolences from the bottom of my heart to the families The martyrs of the campaign and best wishes for recovery to the wounded.”
