A new measure that FIFA is preparing to take, in order to develop the game further from a legal standpoint, is the introduction of what is known as “sin funds.”
This step comes as part of a revolutionary campaign against some mistakes that occur on the field and whose perpetrators are not punished appropriately due to some current regulations.
The Telegraph newspaper said that lawmakers agreed to test this measure, which is very similar to what happens in rugby, on elite competitions such as the English Premier League early next season.
She explained that the new law will target what is known as a “tactical error” when a player makes a mistake to stop a dangerous attack but only gets a warning.
In the new law, the “orange card” will be created by expelling the player who commits any similar incident for 10 minutes, and all violations that can prevent a promising attack but do not amount to a red card will be identified.
The committee responsible for this new regulation cited what happened in the last Euro final, when Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini pulled England winger Bukayo Saka by the shirt while he was about to threaten the Italian goal, but he received only a zero card.
Another possible legal change is for a player to touch the ball with his hand on the goal line to prevent it from entering his goal. This is an incident that is currently punishable by direct expulsion with a penalty kick regardless of intentional intent. However, in the new law, the player will be given a yellow card only if Proved not to be intentional.
The “Box of Sins” will also include preventing players from speaking to the referee about any decision, limiting the matter to team captains only, while studying the expansion of the video assistant referee system to include judging new decisions such as free kicks, corner kicks, and second yellow cards.
