According to data taken from the 2018 Global Cancer Observatory from the World Health Organization (WHO), it shows that the most cancer cases in Indonesia are breast cancer. The number is 58,256 cases or 16.7% of the total 348,809 cases of cancer. (Read: Referred to as an NGO, Here’s the Answer from the Indonesian Ulema Council)
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) confirms this fact through the 2018 Riskedas data which states that the high rate of breast cancer in Indonesia reaches 42.1 people per 100,000 population. The average death rate from cancer is 17 people per 100,000 population. Breast Cancer Concern Month which falls in October, actually reminds the public, especially women, how fierce the disease is.
However, this cancer can be prevented by actions that are actually quite easy to do regularly. Dr. Hastarita Lawrenti, Kalbe’s Medical Department, said that breast cancer is one of the world’s health problems that causes the highest number of deaths.
“Efforts to detect early breast cancer conducted using the Clinical Breast Examination (SADANIS) method or screening for women aged 30-50 years, “he said in the 2020 Breast Cancer Awareness Month Webinar.
SADANIS is done through ultrasound or mammography examination. We can also do BSE (check breasts Joints) regularly. One option for patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer at a certain stage is to perform surgical removal. There are two types of breast cancer removal surgery, namely mastectomy, surgical removal of all breast tissue; and a lumpectomy, surgical removal of cancer or abnormal tissue in the breast, leaving healthy tissue.
Lumpectomy or partial mastectomy is performed at an early stage and there are no major injuries / lesions after surgery. Usually this action will be followed by radiation therapy or combined with other therapies.
