Simona Ventura: The Superstar Who Never Gave Up

Ventura superstar, she always believed in it (and never gave up): rating 9

Among the most illustrious names of this truly “all star” edition, Simona Ventura who, paired with professional dancer Samuel Peron, dominated the dancefloor from start to finish. She spent more than anyone else on the dance floor, even dancing over the criticisms of the always perfidious jury because, as she loves to say, “always believe, never give up”. Probably forged in titanium, we also find it worth appreciating the story she told about herself during the talent show: she talked about depression, about a toxic love that she allowed herself to be overwhelmed in the past, about her most personal fragilities her. This without being, not even once, cloying or scripted. “Super Simo no longer exists, those were different times,” she said with a smile. Seeing her not just doing, but essentially being the show, we allow ourselves to doubt it. She still goes home the winner: her partner Giovanni Terzi, also competing with decidedly less convincing results, asked her to marry her live. The two will get married next July. Thanks to them, for once Dancing with the Stars has put aside drama and whining to make room for a story with a happy ending. It was time! Congratulations to everyone involved.

Carlotta Mantovan, an unexpected slut (what a princess!): vote 4

Among the protagonists of this eighteenth edition, also Carlotta Mantovan paired with the professional dancer Moreno Porcu. Going back to the first episodes, it seemed like she already had the final in hand. Instead, she gambled everything badly due to excessive arrogance. Of her participation, instead of mazurka and jive in which she attempted with prowess, we will remember the attack on the jurors, responsible for having defined her performance on the dance floor using adjectives that were “too heavy” for her, such as “sterile ” it’s cold”. Clearly, Carolyn Smith and associates were simply advising her to appear more involved on the dancefloor, but the competitor chose to take the aforementioned epithets personally: “I am a flower and should be treated like one”, she uttered through tears wearing a princess Elsa dress from Frozen. Eliminated, she then played for the repechage with the greed that only a sloth could reserve for the thought of running the New York marathon. Sin? Maybe for her. Certainly not for the audience at home.

Teo Mammucari has become Iva Zanicchi (and that’s fine): rating 7.5

Last edition Iva Zanicchi was the crazy cell in the competition, the only one capable of worrying, with the sole help of very dirty jokes, the eternal aplomb of Milly Carlucci. This year the role of Ligonchio’s Eagle went to Teo Mammucari. Finally freed from the grayness of Mediaset talent, our man returns to Rai as a competitor on Dancing with the Stars (and hoping for something better in the near future). It looks like him. Sometimes beautiful, other times a little less. What is certain is that without him, the audience at home would have continued to cry for all the dramas grimly offered by the show. Every episode, every competitor proposed at least one, and then danced on it. Mammucari no, in a stubborn and harassing direction, he preferred to focus on bickering with Selvaggia Lucarelli, whom he met for the first time years ago, in the now famous Rubagalline restaurant. Professional taxer of Rosanna Lambertucci and Antonio Caprarica, he never missed an opportunity to prove himself as a showman in his own way. That is, brutal, perhaps even angular, but certainly effective. For better or for worse, one of the very few reasons to suffer five hours of episodes on a Saturday night. In fact, it was aired at past one. The average Mammucari viewer had to deserve it every evening. With toothpicks to keep our eyes open, we venture.

Antonio Caprarica, too “aristocratic” for the “plebs”: rating 5.5

The (censored?) argument in the Sala delle Stelle with Teo Mammucari lasted for at least three episodes, thanks to the very long broadcast times and some rumors that were circulating on the web. Antonio Caprarica, 72 years old, thus found himself among the protagonists of this edition, despite being as pleasant as a lapsed noble title. Rai correspondent in London, for years he told us about the English Crown on the news. And today we discover how much and how he has, unfortunately, absorbed its aristocratic allure, through transitive properties or self-suggestion. For example, he epitaphs the “fourth-rate comedian”, as he defines Mammucari, with a gloss that has little regal to it other than haughtiness: “His is the voice of a plebeianism that leads nowhere ”. Caprarica is therefore keen to distance himself from the “plebs”. Provided that the aforementioned “plebs” really care anything about such a feral decision. Quietly, we doubt it. Sorry.

Wanda Nara announced winner, is she really the best (?): vote 7

No one has ever allowed themselves to make the shadow of a pleat in the presence of Her Majesty Wanda Nara from Argentina (where, it seems, she would be as famous as Maria De Filippi on our national territory). Crowned queen of the dance floor since the first episode, she has thus been able to stand as a symbol of female empowerment, of resilience, of sensuality beyond words. Quintessence of everything that is good and beautiful in the world, she did not fail to also tell some details of her daily routine: she wakes up every morning at 6 to take the children to school, while her partner Icardi looks at her in admiration (him too) . And in case anyone is still wondering, her answer is yes, she “has been working since she was five.” A constant narrative that straddles epic and science fiction accompanied her entire journey in the competition, helping to make her shine in the eyes of viewers. Only Mammucari, once again a hero, dared to try to annoy her. Now that we are at the end, we can only see an unblemished television process behind her, in that of Dancing with the Stars. With all due respect to the juror Guillermo Mariotto who, in the opening remarks, had rudely commented on his “disproportionate B-side” and “those footballer’s legs”. After that, she never spoke again, except to praise her with bombastic superlatives. So everyone is good? It’s legitimate to ask yourself this.

Competitors in the final without a reason (and other misfortunes): vote 4

Let’s drag the abyss. Despite a cast of VIPs who were for once very real and not just presumed, the eighteenth edition of Dancing with the Stars showed the possibility of more than one problem. Starting from the obvious, let’s start with the five hours of live broadcast for each episode, literally a kidnapping of viewers (asleep in their armchairs). Prolix beyond words, the program, as always, invents any trick to be able to get through two in the morning: collateral competitions, repechages, saving Wild Cards at the last minute, treasures, double treasures. You suffer. A lot. Centrifuged. The older ones, from home, tell of a time when there was a regulation, a regulation that required, sooner or later, to eliminate someone from the race before he declared himself out of the game due to injury, x-rays in hand. The impression of finding oneself in an infirmary rather than on a dance floor, from episode to episode, gripped the audience, if nothing else happy to have all the bones in their place. Even the excessive emphasis on the personal dramas of each competitor did not help the show (although it is not a fresh novelty this year, but a real flaw in the form of the broadcast). Depression, tumors, bereavement, horror childhoods, very difficult experiences. There was no trace of a VIP in the race who was almost serene, no, never, everyone fighting undauntedly amidst misfortunes and other sequels of unfortunate events. Is all this entertaining? It seems so and millions of loyal viewers prove it. The reason remains a deep mystery. At least as much as the presence in the final of Giovanni Terzi, Sara Croce, Lorenzo Tano and Rosanna Lambertucci. More than half of the contenders win. It’s strange that Ricky Tognazzi didn’t make it too (or his wife Simona Izzo, in her very unpleasant way – official contestant of the talent show in place of her husband).

Paola Perego, as good as she was injured (she deserved the final): vote 9

“I can’t be sexy, I was born in Monza!”. Despite her (herself) low expectations, Paola Perego was among the queens of Dancing with the Stars, forming, together with Simona Ventura, the golden couple of the entire edition. Dancing will never be her profession like mathematics is for Antonello Venditti, but how charming! Maybe she didn’t give us any particular acrobatics on the dancefloor, but between rompers and super chic dresses, no one noticed. “I’m not used to complaining and I don’t want to”, she repeated several times in the rehearsal room to the professional dancer Angelo Madonia, despite the fact that he was collecting more injuries than ever on the dance floor. Commendable in every respect, she was forced to withdraw due to a bad knee injury, one step away from the Semifinal. In addition to having proven herself a worthy and combative competitor, the public also found in her an excellent ally: in recent days, in fact, she said she was ready to name those who, among the contenders for the triumph, did not deserve to compete victory. Not that they’re a big mystery, but it’s comforting to know that you can count on an insider at the front. She is as good as she is baked. However promoted without ifs or buts. How many would have bet that she was also nice? A beautiful (re)discovery.
