“Simona Kossak” coming soon to cinemas. A powerful story of an exceptional woman, a brilliant role by Sandra Drzymalska [ZWIASTUN]

It’s here! The trailer for “Simona Kossak”, the long-awaited film story of the daughter and granddaughter of famous Polish painters Jerzy and Wojciech Kossak, is coming to cinemas soon. The brilliant cast of “Simona Koss” deserves attention, including Sandra Drzymalska, Jakub Gierszał, Borys Szyc, Olga Bołądź. The trailer delighted Polish viewers.

Simona Kossak who was she

Simona Kossak was born in Krakow at the end of May 1943. After graduating from high school, she applied to the Acting Department of the State Higher School of Theatre in Krakow, but she failed the practical exam. Therefore, she took exams to the Department of Polish Philology at the Jagiellonian University, where she managed to get in. Later, she wanted to continue her education at the Department of Art History, but she did not manage to achieve her goal. So she abandoned the humanities and took a job at the Institute of Animal Production, and finally found herself studying at the Department of Biology and Earth Sciences.

In her family life, Simona grew up among the most distinguished personalities of the art world. She was the daughter of Jerzy Kossak, sister of Gloria Kossak, granddaughter of Wojciech Kossak and great-granddaughter of Juliusz Kossak – painters and niece of writers Magdalena Samozwaniec and Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska. For most of her life, she tried to keep up with them, until she almost completely cut herself off and started living her own life.

She took a job as a scientist in Białowieża, settled in the middle of the forest, in a house without electricity or running water, surrounded by wild nature. There, in a magical wilderness, she met her love, photographer Lech Wilczek, with whom they shared passions – love for nature and… the need for freedom. However, their extraordinary relationship defied all patterns. In the film – biography, however, we see how Simona’s ideas about the work of a naturalist and the position of a young woman in a world dominated by men are subject to painful verification. She must stand up for not only her ideals, but also the world of plants and animals.

Simona Kossak film with Sandra Drzymalska when is the premiere

This is a film that viewers fell in love with at pre-premiere screenings, and the trailer strongly encourages going to the cinema. A story about love for animals and nature, forging a path in a world that turns out not to be black and white and is simply difficult for a young, ambitious woman growing up in the shadow of her father and grandfather, men who achieved extraordinary success. In the role of Simona, the applauded actress of the young generation Sandra Drzymalska, and her partner Jakub Gierszał (in the role of Lech Wilczek). Also on the screen are Agata Kulesza (in the role of Simona’s mother), Olga Bołądź, Borys Szyc, Robert Gonera and Marianna Zydek.

The film will compete for the Golden Lions at the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia (September 23-29), premiere in cinemas on November 22, 2024.

The trailer for “Simona Kossak” has just been released and we highly recommend it, as well as the production itself, directed by Adrian Panek.
