With the sit start to The Big Island, Simon Lorenzi created the world’s second 9A boulder in February 2021: Soudain Seul. Even though the first ascent of the boulder in Fontainebleau was some time ago, Gilles Charles’ documentary is no less exciting, especially as it provides deep and personal insights into the ascent process.
On February 8, 2021, Simon Lorenzi opened Soudain Seul, which was only the second 9A boulder in the world at the time. In the meantime, the line in Fontainebleau has been repeated several times, its grade confirmed, and also downgraded.
It is all the more exciting to look back at this first ascent by Simon Lorenzi with some time in the distance and to draw comparisons with Lorenzi’s other 9A ascents such as Alphane in Chironico or Burden of Dreams in Finland, which the filmmaker Gilles Charlier also captured for posterity.
