Simon Guglielmi Eyes French Championship Win and Tour de France Preselection for Arkéa-Samsic

Simon Guglielmi is on familiar ground this weekend in the Critérium du Dauphiné. This Saturday, the start was given from Lake Saint-André where all cyclists in the Chambéry basin have been used to coming to ride since they were very young. “During my first 50-mile bike outings, we rode that lap. It’s nice to leave here. It’s a childhood dream to participate in a race like this at home. There is a lot of emotion”he told DirectVelo before setting off towards the Col de la Croix-de-Fer.

The day before, he was present in the breakaway of fourteen riders including the future winner, Georg Zimmermann. He was caught 1500 meters from the line. “It sucks a bit. I had already climbed Crest-Voland once in the Tour de l’Avenir. I knew she was very tough. When they told me 55” at the foot, I said to myself that if it rose strongly behind, it would be dead. I fought until the end, but it didn’t. There are no regrets, it was done by pedal”. He aims to return to the front this Sunday during the last stage disputed between Pont-de-Claix and the mythical Bastille, on the heights of Grenoble.

” IT IS GOING WELL “

To be completely satisfied with his season, he would like to achieve a personal result. “That’s what I miss but it’ll do by the end of the season”. He will have a great opportunity to distinguish himself during the French Championship in Cassel, cut for punchers in his style. “It suits me well. There is some elevation without it being too long bumps. I will try to do my best to either shine personally or help the leaders as much as possible in the final”.

Simon Guglielmi is in the preselection for the Tour de France. “Fingers crossed”, he smiles. The soon-to-be 26-year-old runner has never taken part in the event before. “There are many steps to my house. For now, I’m focused on the Dauphiné. I will think about it afterwards because otherwise it is harmful”. He doesn’t worry about his future either. At the end of the contract with Arkéa-Samsic, he should continue the adventure with the Breton formation. “It is going well. For the moment, there is nothing official and nothing signed. They are happy with me and I am happy with the team. We have a good group, the staff is cool. I was quickly integrated”.
