The soap opera “Familiesagaen De syv søstre” ran on TV 2 from 1996 to 2000 and is perhaps one of our biggest soap opera successes.
The gay character “Roy” was played by Simon Andersen (52) and has probably meant a lot to many people, as there were not many queer characters at the time.
“The Family Saga The Seven Sisters”: This is what they are doing now
Andersen is now starring in the documentary “UT” which recently premiered on TV Norway and Discovery +.

– First soap opera gay
When Se og Hør met Andersen on the red carpet in connection with the premiere, he revealed the background to his participation in the series.
– It’s probably because for a number of years I was involved in making the story a little visible. I was perhaps Norway’s first soap opera gay, who got a lot of attention, so that’s probably why, says the actor.
He adds that he has worked a lot in the gay culture, and that he has been very open.
Andersen is to this day recognized as “Roy” from “The Seven Sisters”.
– Every single week, he says with a laugh, and quickly adds:
– I think that is very nice.
The actor goes on to say that he gets a lot of good feedback when he meets the fans.
–
– There are many who have a very strong relationship with that series, and who miss it, and who ask when it will be released on DVD, Andersen laughs.
He is doing this now
Although the 52-year-old is best known for the role of “The Seven Sisters”, he tells Dagbladet that he has made a living from being an actor since then, and that what he has done most of is theater and humor.
– Will be back stronger
– What I have been most known for is probably to parody Wenche Foss, he says.
Andersen says that these days he is working on a project for English-speaking tourists who come to Norway, which is about Norway, Norwegians, Norwegian phenomena and why we are the way we are.
–
– Then I’m going to Ålesund to play in Ina Breivik’s “Margot” performance, which was supposed to premiere in January, but which has been postponed until November.
– Missing the corona
Andersen says that this applies to most of what he has been doing in the last two years – there have been cancellations and postponements as a result of the pandemic.
Sharp criticism: – Ugly
– What have you used coronatida for, then?
– It’s awful to say it, but I actually miss the corona sometimes. I think it has been so relaxing and enjoyable. My husband Kristian and I have had long periods at the cabin, he says with a smile.
The actor is clear that they have been lucky during the pandemic.
– We are spoiled who have those opportunities, but there has been a calm over what I actually liked a bit. I did not think I would say that, and no one had thought it would last that long, says Andersen.
–
– I have not been nervous about finances either – as I probably should have been, he adds with a laugh.
– I denied it
The 52-year-old can also reveal that he has been involved in influencing the “The Seven Sisters” character he had. At first he was “just” an actor who played a role, but that changed over time.
Refser TV program: – They should take care
– When I got a little warmer in the shirt and realized that I could influence it, I was involved in controlling the story a bit, he says and follows up:
– I started to get a little difficult, and said “I do not want to do that” and stuff.
– What was it you did not want to do then?
Among other things, I did not want a relationship with someone in the royal family, as the screenwriters had written. I refused, Andersen smiles wisely.
–
– Why not?
– I thought it was too controversial, I did not think you should mix them in. So it became a politician instead, Simon laughs and quickly follows up:
– That’s not all I can say then.
