KOMPAS.com – Landing location Mars the potential one might be glacier which was covered in debris.
The new study finds that a strange, tortuous feature on a flat plain known as the Arcadia Planitia bears a striking resemblance to the flow of ice within the ice sheet on Antartika.
If the feature were truly glaciers like those in Antarctica, it would probably be a manned mission – sending humans – to investigate territory on the Red Planet.
It has already attracted SpaceX and NASA’s interest because it is a large flat plain, ideal for spacecraft landings.

If there is ice that’s not very deep beneath the surface of the plain, astronauts can also find water sources easily.
“The newly discovered flow-like features are strange because they occur in flat terrain,” said study leader Shannon Hibbard, a doctoral student at the University of Western Ontario in Canada.
“There is a lot of evidence that this is an area rich in ice, but we are not getting the big topographical help that is happening in this tortuous place,” Hibbard said. Live Science, Monday (3/5/2021).
Mystery of nature
Arcadia Planitia is in the lowlands north of Mars.
In the last 3 billion years, active lava flows have propagated in this region, so that there are far fewer craters compared to other parts of the red planet.
Data gathered from orbit over the years suggests that the soil in the region is rich in hydrogen.
