Difference between Monkeypox and Chickenpox
Although the symptoms are almost similar, the two certainly have differences when viewed from the cause of the virus, transmission, symptoms, to prevention and treatment efforts.
1. Different viruses
Both are caused by different types of viruses. Monkeypox is caused by a virus monkeypox belonging to the genus Orthopoxvirus in the family Poxciridae.
While chickenpox is caused by a virus varicella-zoster (VZV). So that the disease can be easily transmitted.
2. Monkeypox transmission is more difficult
If you look at the transmission, monkeypox is actually more difficult to transmit than chickenpox. Transmission of monkeypox occurs when there is contact with the virus from animals, humans, or materials previously contaminated with this virus.
Monkeypox virus can enter the human body through damaged skin cells, respiratory tract, or mucous membranes. These viruses include zoonosis meaning that monkeypox transmission can occur from animals to humans and also occurs between humans.
Meanwhile, chickenpox can be spread easily from people with chickenpox to other people who have never had this disease before or to other people who have never been vaccinated.
