“We are wasting time and money, and what with so many elections already! Abroad they are looking at us: “Can’t these people fix their inner courtyard? They compare us with some unstable countries, it is so wrong and unfortunate, and with consequences”. This is what Simeon Saxe-Coburgotski said in a special interview for the column “Here and now” on the occasion of the political crisis in our country.
On the air of NOVA’s “Wake Up”, he said that he does not feel “a very large dose of ideology in these things”, but rather it is ego – “my people, my party”, which he defined as “very harmful”.
About the expulsion of the 70 Russian diplomats from our country, he said: “I think that the caliber is unheard of. Second – if the other NATO countries had acted with the same proportion and caliber, we can say – “good”. But it seemed unnecessarily provocative to me, I’m not saying that it is, but it seems to be almost custom-made, under some other pressure, which is even uglier for us Bulgarians. Not to mention Russia, which is a country and people with which we have a more special relationship.
Here you have to act more cautiously! It is an empire with an imperial mindset. I believe they will not be offended – with imperial self-confidence. We need to look much more prospectively. How many years will it take us now to regain our mutual markets, relations? It’s a pity because there are emotions and moments of not quite objective and rational reasoning”.
Sakskoburgotski also commented on the lifting of the RSM’s veto for negotiations on its membership in the EU: “For me personally, the important thing is the well-being of these nations – Albania, North Macedonia and us. Because we are already in the EU. Why should they exclude themselves from this good or this community? We should not dwell on the negative, but look at how to get out of this situation without someone saying: “Apostates”!
There are attitudes in some countries that imply that Bulgaria is trying to blackmail, which is extremely ugly. While the role for us is to say: “brothers”! Let’s hit one shoulder, and then already – with our experience that we have acquired! God forbid that a formula be found – here is the French presidency, which tried so hard”.
