More than 500 thousand students from all over the country, from the 4th grade and middle II levels, applied the Mathematics and Reading tests and answered the Quality and Context of Education Questionnaires.
The application of Simce 2023, which was carried out on a census basis between this week and last throughout the country, was successfully completed. In the case of 4th grade, 7,038 establishments participated out of a universe of 7,198, which corresponds to 97.7%. In medium II, 2,967 establishments applied out of a universe corresponding to 2,989, which represents 99.2% national coverage.
The Minister of Education, Nicolás Cataldo, thanked “all the educational communities that joined in the surrender of Simce 2023, the officials who were deployed throughout Chile, but especially the students who participated in the process, because the “The information they give us will serve to monitor the progress of educational reactivation and focus Mineduc’s efforts where they are most needed.”
The objective of Simce is to contribute information to the educational work carried out daily by educational establishments. In this way, its results not only provide information on the learning achievements achieved by the students, but also on their socio-emotional environment, all of which allows public policies and resources to be focused on schools and their educational communities.
“Seeing the commitment of school communities in participating in Simce fills us with joy. Behind each examiner who arrives at each classroom in the most remote parts of the country, there is a logistical process that the Agency assumes with full responsibility. We are moved by the conviction that the results will be a contribution for us to continue advancing in quality and in educational reactivation,” stated the executive secretary of the Education Quality AgencyGino Cortez Bolados.
On both application days, more than 11 thousand examiners and 730 supervisors were available nationwide, in addition to nearly 2,000 support assistants for students who have a permanent Special Educational Need (SEN), mostly with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
This year, more than 8,000 students at both levels evaluated were able to request differentiated accommodations according to SEN. The total number of 4th grade students with sensory disabilities at the national level was 298 and 264, in middle II.
Contribution to the Educational Reactivation Plan
Along with the Simce tests, this year the Quality and Context Questionnaires were applied to students; teachers; mothers, fathers and guardians; and directors. These instruments provide relevant information on other aspects of the personal and social context in which students learn.
“Through the incorporation of some questions in the questionnaires and a module in the Comprehensive Learning Diagnosis (DIA), we will be able to contribute with information for the Educational Reactivation Planspecifically to the School Coexistence axis, through the Coexistence and Mental Health Monitoring system, which aims to provide input to public policy and communities regarding this central and enabling issue to develop student learning. “Cortez noted.
Simce in regions
The regions that had the best coverage in 4th grade were Valparaíso, Metropolitana and Antofagasta, where the tests were applied in more than 99.5% of the establishments. In medium II, eight regions of the country (Arica and Parinacota, Tarapacá, Antofagasta, Coquimbo, Valparaíso, O’Higgins, Ñuble and La Araucanía) reached 100% coverage.
