Silvio left us. At 42, the Succo Marcio drummer dies

There are times when it is difficult to write a news, this is one of those. Silvio left us yesterday at 42 years old. Silvio is Silvio Mason, soul of the most famous rock band that our territory has managed to express, the Succo Marcio. Born at the end of the last century they experienced an intense artistic season culminating with the 2005 concert at the Heineken Jammin Festival, where Succo shared the stage with Garbage, REM and, above all, Green Day became their first sponsors after the famous incursion of the four boys from Como at a concert of Billie Joe Armstrong’s band.

Then the Succo Marcio broke up and their legend began. (In the video Silvio Mason and Campoli at All Music interviewed by a very young Alessandro Catellan)

Silvio was for me that friend who always comes to meet you with a radiant smile, and I’m not the only one who will remember him for his affable way of approaching him. After Succo Marcio, who never really abandoned, he ventured into other musical paths, and showed all his eclecticism not only as a musician, but in conceiving a life full of experiences, even very different from each other, undertaken to try to give shape to dreams. And for Silvio trying to make his dreams come true was to make sense of his life; so from an IT he turned into a videomaker and director (the tender Terry a cat for success it’s a little surreal film), chef in restaurants, home chef, volunteer in Africa, teacher and probably much more that I don’t know.

But I know that his little dream was also the radio and he made it right at Ciaocomo involving his father Giuliano, a great expert and collector of film music, in a cycle of transmissions entitled “Soundtracks”, the aim of the program, which went into aired in 2008, it was to bring the world of classical and film music closer to the audience of young fans of Succo Marcio.

Not later than ten days ago, we crossed paths around the lake of Montorfano, he came in the opposite direction to mine and from afar he opened his fantastic smile seeing me. Only a “Hi how are you“Said on the fly so as not to interrupt the rhythm of the walk …” maybe we meet on the other side of the lake “. We didn’t see each other there. We will never see each other again, but that sincere smile and those good eyes will remain forever among my friends. Hi Silvio see you on the other side.
