(ANSA) – CASACALENDA, 03 NOV – The gym of the “Silvio di Lalla” all-inclusive institute in Casacalenda (Campobasso) collapses due to strong gusts of wind. The sports facility is attached to the earthquake-proof school building built in the years following the 2002 earthquake, which caused the collapse of the Jovine school in San Giuliano di Puglia (Campobasso). Despite maintenance work on the wooden roof, most recently last year, the structure collapsed.
Mayor Sabrina Lallitto, following the extensive damage in the town, signed the order to close schools of all levels for today. “What happened to the gym is a very serious matter – she declared to ANSA – An anti-seismic structure should not collapse. It is frequented by children from childhood and fortunately there was no one there today”. In Casacalenda the damage is extensive. The municipal administration requested the intervention of the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection for technical checks on the collapsed building.
“With the council we are evaluating the initial damage and the possibility of declaring a state of emergency” concludes Lallitto. (HANDLE).
