Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi announced today his decision not to run for president. He thus removed the obstacle to the inter-party negotiations for the nomination of a single candidate, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The nomination of incumbent Prime Minister Mario Draghi to the presidency is the most likely outcome of the talks. But it is unclear whether the broad coalition that supports him will run for office amid fears that leaving the government could lead to new parliamentary elections.
