The Vienna New Year’s Eve Trail will not take place in 2021 either, after it was canceled the previous year due to the pandemic. The organizer announced this on Sunday. The Christmas market in front of the town hall, however, will take place.

“Due to the still volatile infection situation, it is unfortunately not possible this year to organize an event of this type and size in full compliance with the applicable requirements and 3-G controls,” said the organizer stadt wien marketing am Sonntag. The safety of visitors is the top priority for the city. Therefore, with a heavy heart, the decision was made to extend the New Year’s Eve Trail in 2021.
No ice skating in the Christmas dream
The Christmas market on Rathausplatz, the Vienna Christmas Dream, will take place as usual. Construction will start in the next few days. However, there are changes here too: There will be no ice skating opportunities this year. In order to create “more freedom of movement”, the ice surface in the left half of the park will not be built this year. Instead, the entire Rathauspark will be the Christmas world from November 12th to December 26th.
The 27th Vienna Ice Dream is still firmly planned, and from January 19, 2022 to March 6, the Rathausplatz will once again be transformed into Vienna’s largest ice landscape.
