On Thursday evening, the result was officially announced in the Potsdam State Chancellery in a festive setting in a face-to-face event in compliance with the corona regulations. FC Deetz from Groß Kreutz each received a small silver star for second and SC Eintracht Miersdorf / Zeuthen for third. With the “Stars of Sports”, which have been awarded by the Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken together with the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) since 2004, special engagement in sports clubs is honored.

“The joy is great because we didn’t expect it. The surprise was a success ”, said Stefan Fiebiger from the FSV board after the announcement of the winners. He and five other members of the association accepted the award on Thursday in Potsdam with pride and joy.

In 2019, the FSV 63 Luckenwalde was awarded a small “Star of Sports” in silver at the same place in the state finals of the competition for its soccer kindergarten project. Now the big hit has succeeded. For the success, the FSV 63 collects prize money of 2500 euros and the Luckenwalder are qualified as representatives of the state of Brandenburg for the final round of the current edition of the competition at the federal level. The “Stars of Sports” in gold will be awarded on January 24, 2022 by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin. “It’s a great honor to go there,” said Fiebiger. “We will approach the matter reverently and humbly, but by no means detached, and represent our state in a dignified manner.”

With its excellent project, the FSV 63 has hit the nerve of the times. In the past months of the pandemic, the club members had not been idle despite the training and game ban. Wait until the game starts again or keep fit with online training for as long as that was not enough for the Luckenwalde footballers in the Corona crisis. They rolled up their sleeves and tackled where help was needed. FSV members bought for the elderly and people from risk groups, delivered food on the club bus and got involved in the emergency care of children in elementary schools with whom they usually cooperate at the Paulito football kindergarten. Some FSV members even received medical training to be able to take rapid tests and to work in a corona test center.

The aim of the club’s work apart from normal sports activities was to make a contribution to the community in difficult times. The commitment has not only paid off because of the “Sterne des Sports” prize money. As Stefan Fiebiger said at the club presentation on Thursday, there is no corona-related decline in membership at FSV 63. On the contrary, the association currently has slightly more members than before the crisis.

The 43-year-old also revealed that the Luckenwalder football club might not have received the big “Stern des Sports” in silver this year. “After the call for the competition, we on the board did not come to the conclusion which project we should actually apply for,” said Fiebiger, “there wasn’t much sporting, so we have our other activities under the heading ‘Club work in times of the Corona’ bundled. In retrospect, it is difficult to say who had the brilliant idea. Someone put a piece of the puzzle on the table, another added another. This ultimately resulted in the project idea. Club work is always teamwork. “

How the 2500 Euro prize money will be spent has not yet been determined. “Since we didn’t expect it, we haven’t given it any thought yet,” said Fiebiger on Thursday evening.
