We often speak of “piano technique”, an overused term which we do not really know what it rhymes with and what it is used for. In crude and colorful language, we will say that the technique shows that deep down nags and thoroughbreds pride themselves on practicing the same profession of pianist, but that the skills of thoroughbreds must be used well. The appearance of the phenomenon Daniil Trifonov in this world is major. This thoroughbred of the highest lineage knows how to choose his races and use his talent. If you want to listen to something exceptional, go straight away to track 4 of the second CD, the finale of the 2e Concerto of Prokofiev, stormy as ever. Another gem, beach 6, “Chez Petrouchka”, taken from 3 Movements by Stravinsky. Trifonov and Gergiev also give a very moving version of the Concerto of Scriabin.
