Nathalie Zuliani has just received “the oral response” from the Regional Health Agency (ARS) which gives its agreement for the installation of a scanner in the walls of the Saint-François hospital in Marange-Silvange. The director is satisfied, while impatiently awaiting the written document which confirms the administrative authorization to install the medical imaging device.

Hospital x-ray
The Marange Hospital is a private, non-profit hospital with 108 beds. “It is a complete geriatric sector, underlines the director, which includes medicine, follow-up and rehabilitation care, a long-term care unit (USLD), an nursing home and a day hospital. “

Analyse of needs
When a CT scan is necessary, an act that has become common in the care process, hospital patients are sent to Metz or Thionville. “We can easily understand that it is more comfortable for our elderly patients to avoid transport and to carry out examinations on site”, underlines the director. At the same time, the radiology firm Radioest, which is financing the project, mentions a very dense population pool, dependent on disease and funding, which did not have extensive imaging. “The request for a scanner quickly turned out to be complicated due to travel, waiting times which could go up to three months, and therefore dangerous for certain pathologies”, analyzes Jacques De Verbizier, radiologist

Installation times
The Radioest medical imaging practice, located in the Orne valley, is made up of ten radiologists. They are the ones who finance the scanner and the fitting out work in a wing of the hospital in Marange. “We are going to install them in the part that housed the day hospital, since this wing of the building has a separate entrance with access to ambulances and people with reduced mobility. Jacques de Verbizier takes four to six months to be operational. “The health crisis is extending the delays a bit,” he admits.
