Silvana, OSS: “Nurse makes Patient fall and they accuse me, but I have nothing to do with it I was not in the room with her”. – AssoCareNews.it

Silvana, OSS, was accused of dropping a Patient in her room, but she defends herself: “it was the Nurse, I was sanitizing another Patient in another room; left the sides of the bed open after a withdrawal “.

Egr. Director of AssoCareNews.it,

I’m a US; I have already asked a union how to move and a lawyer, but I would also like your opinion. A few weeks ago in the facility where I work a Patient fell and I was accused of not having supervised him and now I also risk being fired. But it was all one man’s fault Nurse sbadata.

I have been working in that structure for 10 years now and what has happened to me these days has never happened to me: accused of having done something I am not in and I could not be responsible.

The patient attempted to get out of bed on his own, slipped to the floor and fractured a femur. The raised sides of the bed had been prescribed to him as a form of containment authorized by both the children and the facility doctor.

Since that morning he had to take blood and urine samples, I decided to sanitize him first. I fixed it, raised the side rails and went into the next room. At 7.30 the Nurse performed the withdrawals and left. She too was alone. Other colleagues were busy in other rooms. The fact is at 7.50 am I heard a dull thud and screams and I immediately rushed into room n. 11, the one that housed the Patient we are talking about. I found it on the ground. He was screaming, he was desperate and you could see that something was wrong with his leg. I immediately alerted the Nurses and the other OSS, who promptly arrived in the room, while alerting the 118 Service.

In short, in short, the patient was hospitalized in an emergency at the nearest emergency room. During the night he was operated on and I got a first disciplinary call.

And yes. The nurse did not admit her faults and, being alone in the room at the time of the discovery and the subsequent alarm, I could not prove anything. Nobody wanted to believe that it was the Nurse who had left the side rails down, nobody wanted to seriously listen to my explanations.

I have nothing to do with it, I have no faults and unfortunately I have no proof. The Patient’s family has asked for damage to the structure and now the structure wants to retaliate against me. I received a written warning and they are considering whether to fire me or not.

How should I behave? Union and lawyer didn’t give me great hope.

Silvana Galanti, OSS

Dearest Silvana,

as he told us this story it will not be easy to get out of it. I can give you a couple of tips, maybe they might even work:

  • try to talk woman to woman with the colleague Nurse, make her understand that sooner or later the truth always comes out;
  • if she refuses to admit her responsibilities seek an agreement with the company, assert your curriculum and your years of service undeterred in the structure; ask for another chance or at least the benefit of reasonable doubt.

Hope this was helpful, a hug and keep us informed of developments.

Good evening.
