Latvian basketball players Ojārs Siliņš and Mārtiņš Meiers scored a total of 28 points in the VTB United League game on Thursday, forging the success of their team Nursultan Astana against Tallinn’s Kalev / Cramo.
“Astana” won with 92:85 (18:22, 25:15, 23:24, 26:24) “Kalev” / “Cramo”, whose head coach is Robert Sttelmaher, but he is assisted by Axel Shield.
Meier was the second most productive basketball player in the Astana team with 16 points and seven rebounds. He threw six of the eight two-point shots, as well as four of the seven “penalties”.
He also had three assists, one intercepted ball, one blocked throw, five provoked notes, two personal notes earned and 22 efficiency points, the second best result in the Astana ranks.
Meanwhile, Siliņš scored 12 points, three rebounds and two assists. The basketball player threw both in two-point shots, as well as two of the four long shots, while he managed to take two of the four free throws.
He also provoked three rule violations, made three mistakes and ended the game with ten efficiency points.
Meiers spent less than 24 minutes on the field, but Siliņš just over 31 minutes.
In the Estonian team, Jānis Kaufmanis stood out in 12 minutes and 24 seconds with one rebounded ball, a passing pass, a intercepted ball and three efficiency coefficient points.
Michael Thompson scored 17 points for the winners, while Marcus Kīns was the most productive in the Estonian team with 23 points and seven passes.
“Astana” with eight successes in six games takes the eighth place, but the Tallinn team has not succeeded in four dues and ranks 12th among 13 clubs.
As in the previous season, 13 teams will start in this regular tournament – nine from Russia, as well as one unit each from Estonia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Poland. For the second season in a row, the VEF Rīga team is not participating in the tournament.
The 2019/2020 league season ended prematurely due to a pandemic caused by the coronavirus, without finding out the champion. At the time of the termination of the championship, the first place was taken by the Moscow region “Khimki”, but the second place was taken by the Moscow CSKA.
