At this time, it is too early to judge how much the damage from storms and floods will cost the country, said Prime Minister Evika Silina (JV) today after the meeting of the parties that form the government.
The government, including the possible impact on the state budget, therefore provides for emergency funding. At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized that the use should be “justified and definitely evaluated”.
Local governments still have two weeks to submit estimates of damage caused by the storm to the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development (VARAM). As the Prime Minister said, no city, including Jelgava, has done so yet.
“We also expect, in the meantime, that the municipalities will look at their insurance properties, and how the insurers dealt with it,” said Siliņa.
It has already been reported that the storm at the end of July left a big mark across Latvia, according to the information gathered by the LETA group.
