Likewise, TVNET already reported that at the end of March, the General Prosecutor’s Office initiated and handed over to the Bureau of Prevention and Combating of Corruption for investigation a criminal case regarding possible waste in connection with the use of charter flights for former Prime Minister Kariņš’s business trips, LETA agency learned from the prosecutor’s office.

According to publicly released information, the General Prosecutor’s Office conducted an investigation into the use of air transport charter services during the then Prime Minister’s business trips.

The General Prosecutor’s Office does not dispute that in the course of the performance of the duties of the highest state officials, situations may arise when it is necessary to use the services of air transport charter flights to ensure business trips.

The regulation stipulates that transport expenses for the Prime Minister in all modes of transport shall be reimbursed in accordance with the actual costs, but no more than in accordance with business class or equivalent class tariffs.

The inspection found that for the special contract trips, which were organized from 2021 to 2023, larger amounts were spent than was provided for in the contracts concluded with travel agencies for the organization of contract trips.
