Silent journey for victims of senseless violence after deadly shooting in Southeast

A silent march will be run in Southeast this afternoon for victims of senseless violence. One of the organizers is a niece of Jergé Hoefdraad, who was shot dead last month.

The march, which is being run under the name WAKA #SayTheirNames, also draws attention to gun ownership. According to the organizers, there is too little talk about the violence. Relatives of victims of senseless violence will speak during the tour.

The 35-year-old Hoefdraad was shot dead in early August when he tried to appease an argument at a party on Stekkenbergweg in Zuidoost. According to his cousin Marian Duff, who co-organizes the march, a great loss to the community.

She calls him Radio 1 a great cousin. “A pacesetter, a talented boy, a father, a cousin, a son. And someone we liked to see at family parties and gatherings. A good guy, a really good guy.”

The tour will be held this afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Anton de Komplein.
