MIMIKA – Host Papua seals a gold medal in futsal XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2021. The gold medal was won by Papua after defeating the defending champion, West Java (West Java), 4-2 at the SP-2 Futsal GOR, Timika City, Sunday (3/10/2021).
The course of the match
The game was tight in the first five minutes. Papua appear to attack and show a fast game. West Java fought back with a solid defense and qualified transition.
Muhammad Najib managed to maintain control of the ball until it knocked down the West Java defender. He ended the action with a powerful kick in front of goal. The score was changed to 1-0 for Papua.
Left behind by one goal had made the West Java defense panicked. Finally, it became a disaster when Pieter M. Ireeuw struck the ball into the West Java goal.
In the remaining minutes of the first half, West Java appeared increasingly attacking and insistent. They are also able to play appear dominant.
West Java’s efforts paid off. With less than one minute left in the half, Rio Pangestu weaved past 1-2 Papuan players, then scored with a powerful kick. The score 2-1 for Papuan advantage closed the first half.
