– It’s getting drunk with the gang! Then we enjoy ourselves, Sigrid laughs when asked about what they do to have fun between concerts.
– We really enjoy our trip. I’m traveling with my best friends. In June we went on a European tour and especially the first week was the most fun I’ve had in a long time. It has been two special years. Now we could finally let go. It has been like going from bar to bar through Europe, says Sigrid Solbakk Raabe to TV 2.
Travelled
We are sitting in a classroom at Sellanrå school in Molde. A stone’s throw away is the Romsdal Museum, where Sigrid will be on stage in a few hours in front of a large audience. Ålesundjenta is one of the big names during the international jazz festival in Rosenes by.

– Moldejazz is such an iconic festival with so much history. I walked along the seafront and saw the names of the stars who have played here over the years. Then I discovered that Kendrick Lamar has played here. There are many jazz legends, but Lamar. It’s gorgeous!
Sigrid makes no secret of the fact that life on tour is demanding. It takes on 80 concerts both in Europe and the USA this year.
– Of course, I can’t sit here and say that I don’t get tired. Then you have to cut back where you can and buy yourself some time for yourself. I’m happy to be alone, and I’m happy to wander around in my own thoughts and listen to music, says Sigrid.

HECTIC: With a new album, Sigrid and the band don’t have many breaks this year. – It’s a lot of fun, but also tiring, she says., Photo : Martin Giskegjerde / TV2

While the rest of the band was driven to the sound check at Romsdalsmuseet, Sigrid took to the rainy weather .
– Then I can zoom out properly! It’s small breaks like this that are important to me so that I can perform on stage. I hear that I have so much energy all the time. But there is a reason why I run around, jump and enjoy myself and have fun on stage, and it is because I make choices that enable me to have that energy, says Sigrid.
Family hero
In addition to being current with her new album “How To Let Go”, Sigrid has been in the BBC studio and covered one of her big idols.

– It is one of the biggest things for me in my career to cover Neil Young’s “Old Man”, which is one of my favorite songs. I have listened to him all my life and is so important to everyone in my family; mum, dad and siblings Tellef and Johanne. And that with a full orchestra in the BBC’s legendary studio Maida Vale. Quite raw and very big for me, it comes proudly from Sigrid.
– And then I can tell you that Neil Young personally approved that the BBC video could be posted on YouTube. Just the fact that he has heard the version and approved it is great for me, tweets the 25-year-old.
On the emergency exit
She has no special rituals before she goes on stage, but vocal warm-ups and an hour of banter with the band are standard.
– Then I must be warm enough.
What is written on the raider of Sigrid and the band remains a secret.
– Such raiders are scary when you first start getting big things on it, laughs Sigrid.

– In collaboration with Øyafestivalen, we signed a green raider where we try to cut down on plastic use, eat local food and feel free to ask about electric transport. There are small measures that can contribute to helping the climate, says Sigrid.
But there will be some climate impact when the band has to fly between concerts. And then even a world star can get a surprise. On a trip to Glasgow a few weeks ago, Sigrid sat down on a seat by the plane’s emergency exit and was supposed to enjoy the flight with plenty of leg room.
– Suddenly the flight attendant comes and asks if I’m over 16! It’s not that bad! I take that as a compliment, smiles Sigrid.
