The tongue shows some signs of serious health problems, including high cholesterol and diabetes, so it should be checked frequently for any uncommon signs.
So, in the next report, we will get to know the most prominent of these signs that appear on the tongue, according to what was mentioned by the “Times of India”, “Express”, and “Every Day Health”.
Symptoms of high cholesterol on the tongue
The tongue suffers from a lack of oxygen-laden blood reaching it, because cholesterol deposition in the inner wall of the arteries leads to narrowing or blockage, and thus it is difficult for blood to reach the body by completing it next to the tongue as well.
So these signs appear on the tongue:
1- The color of the tongue has changed to blue.
2- Enlarged in size.
3- The veins under the tongue change color to black or become dark in general.
4- The appearance of purple or blue spots on the tip of the tongue.
5- Enlarged veins under the tongue.
As for the signs that appear on the tongue and indicate diabetes:
1- Change the color of the tongue
The tongue usually turns yellow, because high sugar raises the level of glucose in saliva and thus changes the pink color of the tongue.
2- Dryness
Dryness of the tongue indicates the risk of diabetes, so it should be monitored if there are other symptoms at the same time, including feeling thirsty a lot, and suffering from frequent urination.
3- Hairy tongue
The appearance of what looks like hair on the tongue is widespread among cases suffering from type 2 diabetes, and is linked to dry mouth that accompanies diabetes, as revealed by the study conducted in May 2019.
