Jakarta –
Unhealthy lifestyle habits bring many health problems, one of which is high cholesterol. Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance produced by the liver for the formation of cell membranes, vitamin D, and balancing hormones.
These health problems usually arise due to an unhealthy lifestyle, such as lots of food containing bad fats and not being physically active. Cholesterol buildup does not show any symptoms until it reaches dangerous levels and begins to affect daily life. Over time it can cause heart attacks and strokes.
Quoted from WebMD the following are signs of the body having high and dangerous cholesterol levels.

1. Xanthoma
Xanthoma occurs due to the growth of soft, yellowish lumps under the skin. It can appear anywhere, but most often in the eye area.
2. Impotence
In men, impotence may be caused by too much blood cholesterol. Impotence is a buildup of cholesterol in the blood which creates plaque in the arteries, thereby blocking blood flow to the penis.
3. Hands and feet tingle easily
High cholesterol levels cause the blood to thicken, thereby disrupting the smooth circulation of blood to the nerves.
4. Pain in the legs
When cholesterol levels in the blood are at extreme levels, it begins to affect the Achilles tendon in the foot. When the arteries in the legs are blocked, the amount of oxygen-rich blood does not reach them. This can make your legs feel heavy and tired.
Most sufferers complain of burning pain in the lower limbs. This pain can occur in any part of the leg such as the thigh or calf. Usually felt when walking, even over short distances.
5. Pale feet
Decreased blood flow can also change the color of toenails and skin. This happens because the cells do not get proper nutrition due to reduced blood flow which carries nutrients and oxygen. The skin will become pale and firm and the toenails will thicken and grow slowly.
6. Cramps at night
This condition often occurs in everyone because of the wrong sleeping position. The difference is, cramps caused by high cholesterol levels occur in the soles of the feet, toes and heels.
The only way to prevent this is to have regular blood tests. Of course, this is accompanied by maintaining a healthy diet and exercising diligently.
