“Significantly shaped the fate of the city” – Lahr

Jrg Uffelmann honored for 40 years in local politics.

(BZ). The City Council of Baden-Wrttemberg awarded Lahr City Councilor Jrg Uffelmann, Chairman of the FDP municipal parliamentary group, the Gold Badge of Merit with a laurel wreath for 40 years of commitment to local politics.

“Through his work in many committees and over such a long period of time, Jrg Uffelmann played a key role in shaping the fortunes of the city, especially in the areas of transport, retail and urban development with a view to a solid financial policy,” says Lord Mayor Markus Ibert. As a former lawyer, he contributes his legal expertise, justifies his point of view objectively and also represents controversial majority decisions, said Ibert, who thanked him on behalf of the municipal council and the city.

On April 19, 1982, Jrg Uffelmann was appointed as a municipal councilor for the FDP parliamentary group. His predecessor Joachim Heil was elected mayor and left the board. In the municipal elections in 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019 he was re-elected to the municipal council.

Uffelmann is a member of the Main and Personnel Committees and the Council of Elders. He is also a member of the committee for social affairs, schools and sport, the fire brigade structure commission, the advisory board for traffic matters and the city senior citizens’ advisory board. Among other things, he is involved in the waste water association Raumschaft Lahr, in the shareholders’ meeting of the Industrie- und Gewerbezentrum Raum Lahr GmbH and the association’s meeting of the Zweckverband Industrie- und Gewerbepark Raum Lahr as well as in the Wohnbau Stadt Lahr GmbH, according to the press release. Uffelmann has been chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the Lahr municipal council for 22 years.
