Significant Military Land Agreements in Eastern Finland: Contracts, Payments, and Concerns

The first agreements were signed already six years ago, but now the process has started to move rapidly – the attitude of the owners has become more positive. The contracts and the location of the objects are secret, it is only known that it is about eastern Finland.

The standard contract with the army is for 20 years, the landowner is entitled to a one-time payment of 750 euros and 4,800 euros for each hectare used for fortifications. For two weeks a year, the army and border guards will hold exercises in the leased territory. The owners are worried that trees and bushes may be cut down during construction.
