Significant changes in oxygen saturation were observed starting 2 hours after SLAP 51 administration, lasting up to 6 hours.

Maeil Ilbo = Reporter Lee Yong | A research team consisting of the Department of Neonatology at the University of Bari, Italy, and the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology at Sapienza University of Rome, found that the probiotic mixture ‘Slab51’ helped improve hypoxia in premature babies. Joona announced the results of her research.
Premature baby refers to a premature baby born more than 3 weeks before the expected birth date (less than 37 weeks of pregnancy).
The results of this research were published in the Science and Technology Citation Index (SCI)-level international academic journal ‘Nutrients’ last August under the title ‘Probiotic complex strain Slab 51 increases blood oxygen in premature babies receiving oxygen treatment.’
The research team began the study by focusing on the fact that ‘SLAP51’ helps the intestines use less oxygen and increases the amount of oxygen that can be used by other organs. The research team conducted a double-blind clinical trial (a research method in which neither the experimenter nor the subjects knew whether or not they were receiving a placebo) targeting 30 premature babies, measuring oxygen saturation (SaO2) and arterial oxygen saturation (SaO2/FiO2) compared to inspired oxygen concentration for 2 hours after administration. Measurements were taken every two hours from now on. As a result of the measurement, in the group that consumed Slab51, significant changes in blood oxygen concentration were evident 2 hours after administration and lasted for up to 6 hours.
Premature babies are at high risk of health problems because their body organs are not fully developed, and they often suffer from lack of oxygen because their lung function is not complete. If you treat this using drugs, ventilators, etc., there is a risk of side effects and excessive oxygen supply. Slab 51 is said to help premature babies survive in the incubator by increasing oxygen saturation within the range of oxygen inhaled by the child.
Slab 51 is a probiotic formula developed by Professor Claudio DeSimone, a world-renowned lactic acid bacteria researcher and a doctor with specialist qualifications in gastroenterology, allergy, and clinical immunology.
“Redistributing oxygen from the intestines to other vital organs is like reducing the water supply in the garden to maximize the use of water in the house,” the researchers said in the paper. “It is regulated so that it does not exceed the body’s natural requirements, greatly reducing the risk of hyperoxia caused by the use of a ventilator,” he explained.
