“Support for tourism organizations in the Outaouais is fundamental, it is the basis of the economic development of our regions,” said Pontiac MNA Sophie Chatel while visiting Terre et Neige, a company located in Val-des-Monts that offers forest hut rental services, as well as a seasonal gourmet table.

Making the announcement on behalf of Minister of Tourism Soraya Martinez Ferrada, the MP for Pontiac explained that financial contributions totaling $787,617 were paid to eight Outaouais businesses.

This amount comes from the Tourism Assistance Fund (FAT) of Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED).

The eight beneficiary companies of the program are:

  • The Auberge Chalet Couleurs de France located in Duhamel.
  • Maxime M et D Outfitter located in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau in an area northwest of the Baskatong Reservoir on Lépine Road.
  • La Lièvre Outfitter located in Bowman.
  • Auberge Terre et Neige located in Val-des-Monts.
  • The Richer Pavilion located at Lake Echouani.
  • Eastern Canadian Outfitters located in Cayamant.
  • Outfitter Lac Isidore located in Bouchette.
  • Les Entreprises Carpediem SENC located in Blue Sea.

“Eco-recreational tourism is very important and it is a booming sector,” said the MNA for Pontiac, insisting on the fact that the Outaouais region deserves to be discovered.

“For the people of Ottawa, Gatineau, it’s not that far to go and recharge their batteries in nature, to take a break from the urban environment, from all our tasks and the stress of urban life,” he added. she adds.

Improve the accommodation offer

Sophie Chatel recognizes that the supply of tourist accommodation in the Outaouais needs a boost. According to her, this financial support program for tourism businesses is amply justified by the increase in demand for accommodation.

It expresses the fact that numerous infrastructures such as the cycloroute des Draveurs, the presence of lakes, and several hiking trail circuits attract tourists to the Outaouais region, but the lack of accommodation offers means that many between them can only stay one day.

The financial assistance from the FAT will thus enable the eight companies to increase, on the one hand, but also to consolidate the achievements by allowing the construction of new chalets in the forest, the winter development of already existing installations, the acquisition of panels solar septic system upgrade.

Reaction at Terre et Neige

“We feel lucky to have had the support of the DEC,” says the co-founder of Terre et Neige, William Jenneret, who sees this as an opportunity to continue expanding his business.

As a reminder, Terre et Neige, located in Val-des-Monts, won a Coup de Coeur award for its accommodation activities in the forest as part of the 25th OSEntreprendre Challenge.

Mr. Jenneret made a point of expressing his pride in seeing that the community believes in his project and believes in him and his co-founding partner Julia Murphy-Buske.

“Our region has a lot to offer,” continues Ms. Murphy-Buske, explaining that it is essential in her eyes to highlight and introduce people to food products produced by local artisans and farmers.

The two partners have the desire to respond to a very present demand for accommodation in the forest and a gastronomic experience.

“For the future, we really want to continue on our path of offering luxury accommodation in the forest accompanied by local and seasonal catering and our long-term dream would be to open a small restaurant to better serve the community”, concludes Julia Murphy-Buske.
